Professor Mark Orams is the Deputy Vice Chancellor Research for AUT. In this role he is responsible for leading the research endeavour for the university, with a particular focus on developing support for building researcher capability and performance. He has a strong background in governance having served in a variety of roles including as Chair of Project Litefoot (a charity focused on improving environmental sustainability through the power of sport), as a founding trustee and inaugural Executive Director of BLAKE (the Sir Peter Blake Trust), and also as a trustee for Kids Restore NZ and the Air New Zealand Environment Trust. He currently serves as a trustee for the NZL Sailing Foundation, the NZ Sailing Trust, as Deputy Chair of the Board for the Sir Peter Blake Marine Education and Recreation Centre and as an advisory board member for Young Ocean Explorers. He is also a former professional sailor and has a keen interest in technology and creative approaches to achieving success in a competitive environments. More recently he has accepted a number of opportunities to provide expert commentary in the media as AUT’s “Sailing Professor”.
